Internet company Google Inc announced it will close its three-dimensional virtual experiment - website Lively, from the end of the year.
The company intends to focus on its primary business - search the Internet, advertising and applications business. The company say they are supporters of experiments, but added: Also, we always accept it when under such risks, not all of them will be successful.
Lively, in which consumers use so-called avatars for your virtual identity and interact in virtual rooms, was launched in July, similar to the popular Second Life product company Linden Lab.
It was difficult decision, but we want to be sure that determine priorities for our resources and concentrate on its main business, said of Google.
The product launched with great expectations of consumers and commentators. Then from LA Times commented: Like Google and so far not strong enough control over the planet, today they start their own world - a virtual world for us to be more precise. Others do gamble whether it will be the end of Second Life, but no one suppose that a few months later it will close.
Lively offers some different features of Second Life, like the ability to integrate video clips from YouTube and images from Picasa in a virtual environment.
Second Life is created in the middle of 2003 and beginning of September 2008 has over 15 million registrations from users.
Other products include virtual worlds such as Entropia Universe, IMVU, There, Active Worlds, Kaneva and others. |
